Central Coast Blue Secures $8 Million Proposition 1 Groundwater Grant to Boost Water Resiliency

[Grover Beach CA, October 4, 2023] – The Central Coast Blue Regional Recycled Water Authority (CCBRRWA) is thrilled to announce that the project has been awarded an $8 million grant from the California State Water Board Proposition 1 (“Prop 1”) Groundwater Grant Program. This grant, in addition to the $32 million of grant funding previously secured by the project, represents a significant step towards enhancing water resiliency in the Five Cities region of South San Luis Obispo County.

The Prop 1 Groundwater Grant will play a pivotal role in Central Coast Blue's mission to secure a reliable and sustainable water supply for the Cities of Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, and Grover Beach. The project, when constructed, will purify treated wastewater to drinking water standards and inject it into the groundwater aquifer as groundwater recharge. The benefits of this forward-thinking project are designed to diversify water sources, protect groundwater supplies, and provide a drought-resilient water supply for generations to come.

Karen Bright, CCBRRWA Board member and Mayor of the City of Grover Beach said, "This grant will help ensure long-term water security for our residents and is a significant step forward in our efforts to safeguard our water supply, especially during times of drought."

Caren Ray Russom, CCBRRWA Vice-Chairperson and Mayor of the City of the Arroyo Grande echoed these sentiments, saying, "The award of this competitive grant will help us achieve our vision of a more water-secure future for our communities”.

The generational benefits of the Central Coast Blue project to our community are substantial. This project strengthens economic resilience by helping to ensure a stable water supply for residents and businesses alike. It also aligns with California's environmental goals by reducing dependence on imported water and promoting sustainability through increasingly necessary water reuse.
